Voltage Protection Buyer Checklist

A practical checklist for selecting voltage protectors by grid condition, appliance, current, plug, delay and surge requirements.

Use this checklist before asking for a model or comparing prices. It is designed to reveal missing information early, when a correction is still inexpensive.

1. Describe the supply, not only the nominal voltage

  • Country, city or utility area;
  • nominal voltage and frequency;
  • lowest and highest readings seen in normal use;
  • frequency of outages, reconnection and generator switching;
  • whether lightning or switching surges are a known problem.

2. Identify the real load

  • Appliance type and nameplate photo;
  • rated current or power;
  • compressor or motor starting behaviour;
  • one appliance or several devices on the same output;
  • continuous duty, intermittent duty or occasional use.

3. Separate the functions

Ask which functions are actually required: sustained high/low voltage cut-off, delayed reconnection, surge protection, overload/overcurrent, display, adjustable threshold or fixed settings.

Do not combine claims: a surge protector handles short transient events. A voltage protector disconnects a sustained abnormal supply. One function does not automatically prove the other.

4. Confirm plug, socket and installation

  • Exact plug/socket standard or clear photos;
  • portable plug-in, fixed wiring or DIN-rail installation;
  • indoor temperature and ventilation;
  • earth/ground availability;
  • terminal and conductor requirements for higher-current products.

5. Confirm the commercial version

  • Quantity and target price band;
  • retail, wholesale, project or e-commerce channel;
  • language, logo and packaging;
  • required compliance documents by model and market;
  • sample approval and change-control expectations.
